Seattle Windstorm Casuality - Tree Falls on my Favorite Garden Spot....

Yesterday here in Seattle, we had a big wind storm in the afternoon and into the evening.  I left my office to work at my home office in the middle of the afternoon and came home to find my large King Maple tree blown down in my backyard.

Seattle windstorm casualty - my backyard

There used to be two green Adirondack chairs here, the one to the right you can't see because it's been crushed.  I used to sit in the crushed one and look out over my small pond, patio and garden.  I was lucky that the tree did not fall onto my garden shed (or house!) the tree was caught by my Empress tree so the shed was saved.  But my favorite place to sit and enjoy my garden is gone....

In the grand scheme of severe weather damage in the past 24  hours in the U.S. mine is small, but still...I will miss my garden spot.

Ouch, I am so glad no one was hurt.

Me too!  It was kind of a scary evening until the winds died down around 8:30 or so.  I even parked my car in a different spot when I came home (before I knew about the King Maple falling down) because most of my trees have not lost their leaves.

Still having leaves on them makes them more vulnerable (greater surface area, like sails on a boat) to being pushed over in high winds.  Our windstorms are usually later in the winter time after all the deciduous trees have lost their leaves.

Deborah, I'm glad you're okay!  What are you going to plant in your garden spot now?

Hi Rhonda, well first I have a major clean up!

I am not sure, I want the area to be a little protected (cozy) and the tree had a lot of girth.  Unfortunatley blogging has overtaken gardening!  Although I had imagined blogging while sitting in that spot once I set up a wireless system...oh well!

Hi Deborah,
Look at the bright side, now you get to plan a new area, bigger and better.

Hi Cynthia, you're right...it's just hard to "prune back" the blogging to get back to gardening!

Deborah,  I'm sorry about your favorite garden spot.  I hate it when trees fall down...it's so sad!

Hi Shannon, yes it is sad to see a tree down.  I really love trees (born in Tucson and trees are not common like they are in the Pacific Northwest) and I hate to see them cut down too.  Yes I will miss my garden spot under the tree, but I will plant something else.  Although I don't know when I will get around to it.
