Preview of this year's Solstice Parade in Seattle's Fremont

Preview of Fremont's Solstice Parade Festivities....

I was prowling around Seattle's Fremont (The Center of the Universe ) yesterday and came upon a warehouse (the new Theo Chocolate Factory , formerly the old Red Hook Brewery) with a sign on it about the Fremont Solstice Parade .  I parked my car and checked it out.  I peered in the windows beside the doors and saw lots of stuff for the Parade, a guy just then propped open one side of the door to let some fresh, sunshiny air in.  I started chatting with Greg, as he introduced him self, and we started talking about the Parade.  Greg invited me in to see what he, Carla and Leslie were working on to get ready for the parade this coming Saturday, June 16 2007.

Fremont Solstice Parade preparation

Greg showed me the "Thirst People " costumes he was working on, Carla was working on papermache masks, and Leslie was sewing cloth for costumes.  Greg told me that there was another warehouse nearby that had a lot more of the stuff for the parade.   It was really cool to see some of the preparation for the parade, of course, there were no nude "painted cyclists " hanging out in the warehouse, they will appeare on Saturday with all the other fun and wacky parade entertainment!  I can't wait!

Deborah - Sounds like you are in for a great time!  I lived in Santa Barbara, CA for many years and the Solstice Day Parade was the premier event of every year.  A whacky time that was truly enjoyed by everyone.  You could not help gettling caught up in the excitement and it all started many years ago with a band of 3-4 hippies marching down State Street!  "Here Comes The Sun!!!"

Hi Earlene!  Yes, I am so excited!  I have never been able to see the parade (but love Fremont and all things Fremont) so this year I will be able to see and enjoy what I have been hearing about since I moved to Seattle!

What a fun way for the Santa Barbara Solstice Day Parade to have begun... "Here Comes The Sun" indeed!
